Penny "Ramapriya" Crump
Sivananda Yoga

Taking a break from punishing kickboxing classes, Penny Crump started studying yoga in 2000. Noticing subtle improvements in strength, flexibility and mood, she thought - "hey? maybe there's more to this yoga thing than stretching!"

Gradually, her practice evolved and she became a committed yogini. She now teaches yoga throughout New Haven and Connecticut.  Her students range from teens to seniors, beginners to adepts. Working with special populations, Penny also teaches wheelchair yoga and a class sponsored by the Head Start program for women recovering from substance abuse and domestic violence. Her Recovery Yoga method was developed in consultation with survivors and sponsors.

Penny's sense of humor is as twisted as her yoga practice.  She is currently working on The Goofa Sutras: the Path to Enlightenment Through Laughter. Chapters include, "Too Much Kapha in the Morning", "Khah-khah Chakras", "Dancing like Shakiracharya" and "Kundalini al Fresco". (Ouch, bad yoga humor.) Back to the serious part now...

Penny's intensive yoga studies have been with Swamis and senior teachers at the International Sivananda Yoga and Vedanta Centers.  She holds the title of Yoga Siromani - Jewel in the Crown of Yoga. In addition to her 200-hour Certification, she has 108 hours in Yogic Vedanta Philosophy of Narada's Bhakti Sutras and Sankaracharya's Vivekacudamani.  Open to all teachings, Penny's also taken workshops and had lectures with Yogis from many paths including Judith Hanson Lasater, Anna Forrest, and Atmarama Dasa. Her spiritual name, Ramapriya, means Beloved of God.
